Aera the Devout

Aera the Devout, a Nord monk, is the leader of the Talos worshipers at the Camp of the Devout. During A Delicate Situation, guard captain Adius Vilius will ask you to help convince Aera and her followers to stop worshiping.

Aera spends her days pacing around the camp and warming herself by the campfire, sleeping from 2am to 10am. She wears brown robes and monk's boots and also carries a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink. Aera is armed with an iron mace and can cast the spells Firebolt, Healing and Ironflesh.

DialogueEdit

When you first approach the camp, she will draw her weapon and challenge you:

"Ho there, traveler. Who are you? Are you with the Thalmor? Tell me. Now."

If you say you aren't, she relents:

"Then I suppose I can afford to stow my weapon. Hmm. I hope for your sake you're not lying. Besides, we've nothing to be ashamed of. Go on, then. Ask whatever you'd like. Come and go as you please. But we'll be watching you."

If you ask how they ended up at the camp, she snorts:

"Have you been living under a rock? Talos worship's a crime now. Armion and his justiciars have moved into Bruma. I didn't feel like sitting around in Bruma like mammoths lining up for the milking. Turns out a few others had similar ideas. And so we left."

Inquire about the congregation and she says:

"Not much to tell. We reject that fancy treaty the Emperor signed with those Dominion dogs. We believe in Talos. We worship Talos. And we'll keep worshipping Talos. Treaties be damned. Politics be damned. Thalmor abduction squads be damned."

Asking her about herself will net you:

"I've been faithful to Talos ever since I was first old enough to understand the tales. The Thu'um... to ascend to divinity! My grandmother would tell me the stories. Tiber Septim's great deeds - and his rise to godhood. A true inspiration. I believe in heroism. I believe in the resilience of man - not the supremacy of elves. And I'm not about to let a damned treaty change that."

If you ask about any threats they're facing, she confesses:

"Sometimes, but nothing we can't handle. Wolves, bears, the occasional troll, that sort of thing. Though recently we've been in a bit over our heads. Bandits. You know the sort. They came through here and took my amulet of Talos. It means a lot to me. Next time you're exploring the wilds, mind keeping an eye out for it? We'll reward you as best we can within our means."

This will start the related quest.

Back in Bruma, Armion is very much aware of Aera, as he reveals if you attempt to report them:

"Ah, yes, the merry band of cretins led by that irritating worm, Aera the Devout, correct? We've had our eyes on them for some time. They'll be dealt with. Severely. And soon."
