Legate Centos Durius is an Imperial soldier who is the ranking officer at the Pale Pass. During the related quest, you will have to convince him to let you through the gates to Cyrodiil, either by being a fellow legionnaire or by winning renown across Skyrim. If you choose to fight your way across the border, you will have to kill him to get hold of the key to the gate.
He spends all his waking hours guarding the gate.
The legate wears a full set of Imperial armor: cuirass, boots, bracers and an officer's helmet. He is armed with an Imperial sword and also carries 42 gold coins and the key to the gate.

DialogueEdit
He spends all his waking hours guarding the gate, and when you first arrive at the pass, the sentry warns you:
- "Someone else wanting to get into Cyrodiil? You'd best speak with the Legionnaire. Quickly. But be warned - he's not the most patient man."
Indeed, the legate is none too pleased to see you:
- "This border is a restricted entry zone. State your intentions."
If you tell him you want to cross he will snort:
- "You and hundreds of others. But I'm not authorized to let just anyone through. Border's locked down. That's that. No two ways about it, no arguing about it, either. Those are the rules. You'll either need official papers or some other justification for your passage."
If you ask him why the border is shut he will explain:
- "You think I make the decisions? I may be a Legionnaire but I'm just a grunt compared to the powers that be in the capital. Not that it takes a Synod mage to work it out. Skyrim's in the midst of strife, the Empire's still reeling from the war. Doesn't take a genius to realize the Empire wouldn't want any of that chaos spilling over into its heartland."
NotesEdit
- It appears Centos was initially meant to have the title of Legionnaire, as can be seen from the sentry's dialogue and from an unused NPC in the Creation Kit called Legionnaire Centos Durius.
