Calixto Corrium was a retired Imperial adventurer that was active in the Fourth Era. For most of his life, he was accompanied by his sister and traveled all over. In the late days of his life, he became an infamous serial killer who stalked Windhelm's streets under the alias of the Butcher.

HistoryEdit

Sometime in the second century of the Fourth Era, the siblings, Calixto and Lucilla Corrium had inherited a large sum of money and decided to explore the world together. In their travels, they acquired many rare items. These included the Book of Fate, the Dancer's Flute, and Ysgramor's Soup Spoon. However, through unknown circumstances, Lucilla died and Calixto mourned greatly over her death. He was determined to bring her back to life, and by any means necessary. His journey eventually brought him to the world of forbidden magic, and Skyrim, where he spent time with the mages at the College of Winterhold. He felt resentment towards them as they only studied established magics, and not something beyond normal convention, like flesh magic, which he took a particular interest in.

His quest took him southeast into Windhelm, where he felt it provided the necessary tools to conduct his research and experiments, namely the flesh and blood of the people. As a ploy to blend with the public, Calixto opened his store called Calixto's House of Curiosities, where he put on display the various trinkets he and his sister gathered over the years. By 4E 201, he was favorable among the local and began his plans, first by preying on the young women of Windhelm. According to the local priestess of Arkay, he used embalming tools from Ancient Nordic times to excavate their remains.

Calixto, as the murderer known as the Butcher, had an identifiable pattern of killings related to his necromantic rituals. Two of his first known victims was a woman named Isabella and Friga of Clan Shatter-Shield. He took the keys to Frija's old home; Hjerim in the Valunstrad District and used its hidden backroom to conduct his experiments on an altar of blood, and with the Necromancer's Amulet in his possession. While the city guard was focused elsewhere, few were following the case, namely Viola Giordano, who kept with the story for months and put up various pamphlets to spread awareness, and the Jarl's Court Wizard, Wuunferth the Unliving. With Hjerim as his haunt, Calixto stored his journals and Viola's pamphlets in the backroom.

Not long after his third victim, the barmaid Susanna the Wicked, an adventurer became involved in the matter and was employed by the steward to uncover the case. Working with Viola Giordano, they snuck into Hjerim and found the Necromancer's Amulet in the backroom. Unbeknownst to his true identity, they showed Calixto the amulet, hoping he could identify it. He told them it was the Wheelstone, an heirloom symbol of power in Windhelm, and hinted at its ownership to the Court Wizard, Wuunferth the Unliving. Wuunferth, who was also investigating the Butcher, immediately recognized it as the Necromancer's Amulet and coordinated with the adventurer to catch the killer. While it is unknown if he claimed his fourth victim or not, Calixto was confronted in the Stone Quarter and put to justice by the adventurer's hand.
