Lore:Godhead

< Lore: Appendices / Gods
"The eyes, once bleached by falling stars of utmost revelation, will forever see the faint insight drawn by the overwhelming question, as only the True Enquiry shapes the edge of thought. The rest is vulgar fiction, attempts to impose order on the consensus mantlings of an uncaring godhead." —Waking Dreams of A Starless Sky - Bilius Felcrex

Godhead is a term with various meanings relating to divinity within the Aurbis. It may be used to refer to a group of gods under one name, such as Almsivi, the Triune godhead of Almalexia, Sotha Sil, and Vivec.[1] It can also be used as a synonym for apotheosis, the spiritual process by which mortals ascend to godhood.[2]

The Godhead is seemingly also the name for an esoteric entity[3] of disputed existence.[4] The entity is said to be plagued by madness and split personalities, and is recognized by some beliefs as the creator of the Aurbis by way of dreaming it into existence. For this, the entity is known as the First Dreamer.[UOL 1] It is said within the nature of the Dreamer lies the secret of the Psijic Endeavor,[UOL 2] a process by which mortals are charged with transcending the gods.[5] Those who achieve this goal, entering a state known as CHIM, are said to experience an ineffable sense of the Godhead and escape the limitations of the Aurbis.[UOL 2] The supposed state beyond CHIM, known as Amaranth, is said to involve mantling the Godhead and dreaming in the same way.[6][7][UOL 1]

NotesEdit

  • Anu the Everything bears similar characteristics to the Godhead in some cultures, encompassing all of reality and having an unknown true face.[8][9]
  • The Acharyai is the name of the supposed first spirit or spirits in existence, the distant ancestor or ancestors of the typically accepted et'Ada: the Aedra, Magna Ge, and Daedra. They are acknowledged by the Psijic Order and considered fundamental to their complex system of Ancestor Worship, known to them as the Old Ways.[10]
