Ard Caddach of Markarth
"Wood Elves and Reachfolk are both quite skilled in the healing arts. Imagine what we could learn from each other!" —Ambassador Goronwy[1]

Ambassador Goronwy was a Reachfolk diplomat and a mage in the service of Ard Caddach of Markarth. He was the Reach envoy to the city of Vashabar in the region of Dawnwood, a Bosmeri-controlled territory in southwestern Cyrodiil.[1]

HistoryEdit

King Nantharion Rayn of Vashabar

Little is known of Gonorny's past. He hailed from the Reach and was loyal subject of Ard Caddach. Although diplomatic missions in the Reach weren't unheard of during the tenure of Ard Caddach, such as Bralthahawn, a Bosmeri ambassador from Arenthia's scholarly institutions who worked closely with Consul Cardea,[2][3] or the Royal Envoy to the Reach, Nilene Devierin, representing the interests of the Breton High King Emeric,[4][5] the number of Reachfolk ambassadors abroad was relatively few. Goronwy was one such individual. Serving as one of Ard Caddach's few ambassadors was considered a true honor. Soon after the foundation of the independent Bosmeri nation in the region of Dawnwood by King Nantharion Rayn, Ard Caddach seized the opportunity to send a representative to this fledgling kingdom. Goronwy was fortunate to secure the post.[1]

At some point in 2E 582, Goronwy traveled across Tamriel, leaving the Reach and venturing to the city of Vashabar. As an ambassador, Goronwy advocated for cooperation between the Bosmer and Reachfolk, emphasizing the mutual benefits they could gain, particularly in the area of healing magic. A practitioner himself, he intended to showcase Reachfolk healing arts during the cultural exchange. He was also keen on sharing culinary traditions, such as traditional Reachfolk coney stew recipes. He also learned about some local dishes, although he needed to adjust to Bosmeri cuisine. Goronwy enjoyed his stay in Dawnwood and was willing to engage with anyone passing through the area.[1] He was warmly accepted by some of the Bosmeri population, spreading information about the Reach and attracting their interest.[6][7]

Despite the death of King Nantharion Rayn in the same year, his mission remained unaffected.[1] He remained in the city after the King's death and Greenspeaker Darolith's ascension to the role of local leader.[1][8] His presence was considered a part of the local West Weald culture.[9]

NotesEdit

  • Simultaneously, a Reachfolk diplomat was also operating in the nearby Imperial city of Skingrad. This diplomat requested Count Calantius to return items of cultural significance to the Reach, which were left in the region following the Colovian Revolt led by Varen Aquilarios. The Imperial Legion in the area was tasked with retrieving these artifacts, and they hired mercenaries for the job. Ultimately, the trinkets were returned, though it remains unknown whether Goronwy or another Reachfolk diplomat was responsible for issuing this request.[10][11]
