Mehrunes Dagon wielding his axe (Oblivion)
"A gout of fire erupted to her right. There she laid eyes upon her sibling Merrunz for the first time in eternity. The blood of a god dripped from his axe, and his fanged smile belied the story of a kinslayer. He slammed his axe against the Lattice, and though nothing before this had ever done so, the Lattice shook and cracked under its weight."

Mehrunes Dagon's Axe is an artifact associated with Daedric Prince of Destruction Mehrunes Dagon.[1] It is a large and fiery double-bitted axe.[2] It is said that no mortal has earned enough favor to be entrusted with Dagon's own axe, or to know its name.[UOL 1]

Mehrunes Dagon was known to wield his axe on numerous occasions,[3] including his attempts to invade Nirn in 1E 2920,[4][5] 2E 582,[6] and 3E 433,[7] as well as during his assault on the Lunar Lattice in the ancient past.[1] Numerous statues also depict him wielding the weapon,[8] including—but not limited to—those found in the Daedric ruins of Ald Sotha, Ebernanit, and Ularradallaku on the isle of Vvardenfell,[9] as well as in the mountains of the Pale in the province of Skyrim.[10] The statue in Plaza Brindisi Dorom in the southern part of the city of Mournhold, commemorating Almalexia's victory over Mehrunes Dagon, also depicts him wielding an axe during their battle.[4][5]

The axe is considered a blessed weapon of Mehrunes Dagon, believed by some of his followers to be forged solely for the purpose of destruction.[11] Axe bearers were known to have a proud history in Dagon's service.[12]

NotesEdit

  • A merchandise product—a guitar known as the Axe of Oblivion or Dagon's Axe—is also named after the Daedric Prince's weapon, though it is otherwise unrelated.[13][14]
