Morrowind:Technical Support

< Morrowind

This page is for technical problems with Morrowind—e.g., video cards, system software issues. It also lists probable causes and possible workarounds and solutions. For problems with game logic, see Glitches.

CrashesEdit

Problem
The game unexpectedly crashes after too many hours of continuous play.
Cause
This is caused by an engine bug which causes buffers to incorrectly clear.
Solution
Save more often, and create full saves instead of merely relying on the quicksave and autosave features.

Saving ProblemsEdit

Problem
The load menu appears corrupted or a strange error like "QuestName info in Journal "XXX" has no name string." appears when loading.
Cause
This is caused by an engine bug induced by having too many saved files. A higher mod count lowers the number of saves before the bug occurs.
Solution
Move old save files from the Morrowind saves folder out of the folder, or delete old saves that are not needed. It is suggested that you have at most 300 save files in the Morrowind saves folder to avoid load menu issues like this. Morrowind Code Patch adds a warning message so player will be aware that there are too many savegames.

Problem
My most recent savegames do not appear at the top of the list any more, but instead appear randomly further down the list of saved games.
Cause
The date and time are not set correctly.
Solution
The Xbox needs power to maintain the date and time. When the Xbox loses power (due to unplugging, or a power outage) for a few hours, the date and time are reset, and a prompt to set the date and time appears the next time the user turns on the Xbox. Make sure to correctly set the time when the prompt appears. If the time is set correctly, and yet saves are appearing in the wrong order still, check for and delete any saves that appear to have been created in the future according to the list.
