Faction(s) | Olav's Tap in Bruma; Bruma Citizens |
Olav is a Nord publican and the innkeeper at Olav's Tap and Tack in Bruma. He sells food and rents beds at all times, never eating or sleeping.
He wears typical lower-class clothing consisting of a collared shirt, green felt linens, and buckled shoes. He carries a small amount of gold and the key to Raynil's room.
DialogueEdit
When greeting you, Olav will cheerfully say:
- "What can I do for you today?"
- Bruma
- "The Countess is Heartland Nibenean, and so are most guildsmen and chapelmen, but most others are as Nordish as you'll find."
- Bed
- "I've got a room, and a cheap one at that. You looking for one?"
- I'll take it.
- "Not even 10 gold to your name? And here I thought I had it bad. Sorry, but I need you to pay before I can let you stay here." (if don't have enough gold)
- "Right then. Head up the stairs, and it's the first door on your right. Remember, I didn't say it was clean. I said it was cheap."
Should you ask him again about a room, he will just say:
- Bed
- "Hope it suits you."
He will part ways with you by saying:
- "Good journey to you."
Related QuestsEdit
- A Brotherhood Betrayed: It appears that a vampire in town was recently killed by Raynil Dralas, a self-proclaimed vampire hunter.
Quest-Related DialogueEdit
Before and during the related quest, you may hear Bruma's citizens mentioning the recent killing of a vampire and a connection to Olav's establishment:
- "I was at Olav's earlier and I ran into this Dunmer named Raynil Dralas. After a round or two, he told me he was an honest-to-goodness vampire hunter!"
- "Ahhh, you mean that vampire hunter. He's staying over at Olav's Tap and Tack. It's near the city gates; you can't miss it."
If you ask Olav himself, he will express his doubts that Bradon Lirrian was a vampire:
- "I know I may be out of line by saying this, but I think the city guards may be wrong. It's hard to imagine Bradon was a vampire. I could have sworn I saw him outside in the daylight before. Unless he just got that disease very recently, I'd say they were mistaken. When I heard Raynil killed him, I didn't know what to think. But after your visit here, I'm beginning to wonder."
You can then ask him about the vampire hunter, though he will only help if his disposition is higher than 70:
- Raynil Dralas
- "I don't usually give out that kind of information. Especially to people I don't know."
- "Raynil is staying in the last room down the hall upstairs. Here's the key. I always liked Bradon and Erline. They were a nice couple. I hope you get to the bottom of this, cause I don't believe he was a vampire either."
Asking him again will net you:
- Raynil Dralas
- "He isn't in right now, so you should be clear to check it out. Just don't tell anyone I gave the key to you."
He will then leave you with:
- "Just look for me if you need anything else."
Upon finding Gelebourne's Journal, you can ask him a few more questions:
- Raynil Dralas
- "Nothing else I can tell you about him. He comes and goes and doesn't talk to people much."
- Gelebourne
- "Gelebourne? That's odd you should mention that name. Raynil told me that he was the last vampire he hunted. Yes... that's right. Somewhere in Skingrad I believe. He said he tracked Gelebourne down and killed him. That's apparently why the guards trust him so readily. They had gotten word from Skingrad's city watch about Raynil and his so-called accomplishment."
Approaching and speaking to him again will now net you:
- "Whatever I can do..."
- "Anything else I can help with, you just let me know."
Once you've dispatched Raynil and cleared Bradon's name, he will be overjoyed:
- Raynil Dralas
- "I'm glad that scum got what he deserved. Good riddance."
If you however you waited more than a day before checking out Boreal Stone Cave, he will remark:
- Raynil Dralas
- "No news yet, eh?"
Once you return empty-handed he will instead comment:
- Raynil Dralas
- "Sad that Raynil slipped away like that."
Regardless of which approach you took, he will mourn the deceased when next spoken to:
- "Hello and well met."
- "It's very good to see you again."
- Bradon Lirrian
- "Poor fella."
He will now take his leave with:
- "Hope to see you again soon."
RumorsEdit
Guards will direct you to Olav's when you ask for a place to sleep in Bruma:
- "Olav's is next to the east gate."
Him and his establishment seem to have a very positive reputation among the denizens of Bruma, as you may overhear them saying:
- "Olav's Tap and Tack is a good, inexpensive place for travelers."
- "The Tap and Tack is a good place to get a quick bite, and Olav is a good man."
To which others will respond:
- "It's a fine place, and Olav treats people well."
- "I've had many meals there. Olav is an excellent innkeeper."
Citizens will also ask each other:
- "Do you enjoy spending time at Olav's Tap and Tack?"
- "Isn't the Tap and Tack a relaxing place to visit?"
To which their counterpart will respond:
- "I've had many a good night in the place."
- "Olav makes everyone feel welcome."
NotesEdit
- It appears Olav was originally intended to join his fellow citizens and cheer on Martin as he leaves for the battlefied during the Defense of Bruma quest, however his lines were commented out of the quest script and he was never given the requisite AI package.
- Olav has a further greeting line which you should have heard if Erline Lirrian died. Due to faulty conditions it is however never heard:
-
- "If you want a room or a drink, I'm your man. Otherwise, I got nothing to say to you."
BugsEdit
- Even after completion of his related quest, Olav will remain permanently essential.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.5.4, fixes this bug.
