DialogueEdit

Trials of the HeroEdit

Frandar is scolded by his son Divad at the cave of Mt Hattu

Upon approaching him, a memory of the past will play out before you.

Frandar Hunding: "We must consider negotiation, my son."
Divad Hunding: "To the dogs with that! Hira has killed my mother—he killed your wife!"
Frandar: "What you say is true. But many more wives and sisters will die if we take up the sword."
Divad: "This cave has made a coward of you! We must fight!"

Once the flashback ends, you can speak to him:

"To choose for oneself is simple. To choose for a nation is hard. The heaviest blade is as a feather compared to the trust of one's people.
Abide with me and listen carefully."
Yes. Please continue.
"A tyrant threatens your people. If you submit to him and become his willing thrall, your people will be shown mercy. If you attack, you and your people will be driven from your homeland and exiled to the sea.
What do you do?"
I would submit
"Submission would have brought peace, yes. But at what cost? All that Yokuda was and is finds its source in the blade. We could not waver. Even so, there is always cost. I chose the sword—many and many were lost.
Was this the greater good?"
I would attack!
"I too chose to attack—but all choices bear a cost, wayfarer. When the last sword was sheathed in the shadow of Mt Hattu, the dead were beyond counting. Many more were lost at sea during the exodus.
Was the price of honor too high?"

When you speak to him after, regardless of the choice taken:

"When you choose for one, you choose for all. Such is the burden of leadership."

Trials and TribulationsEdit

To gain entrance to the Chamber of Passage within the Hall of Heroes, it will become necessary to gain the blessings of long-dead heroes. Frandar is the first one who can be contacted.

"I know you... your spirit, but you belong in this place no more than the others, the invaders.
Why do you come here? Why do you disturb my rest?"
I need to get into the Chamber of Passage.
"Of all the places in this temple you do not belong, it is there you belong the least.
But I sense that where the others have come to violate the chamber's sanctity, you have come to restore it. I will give you my blessing if you prove worthy."
How do I prove myself worthy?
"The invaders have taken my scrolls—four sacred writings from the Book of Circles. They describe the principles one must master in the various seasons of life.
Recover the scrolls, place them on the appropriate pedestals, and earn my blessing.
I'll find and return the scrolls to their pedestals.

After collecting the four scrolls, he will tell you what to do next.

"The scrolls speak of the principles of Wisdom, Discipline, Sacrifice, and Devotion, and the seasons of life in which I mastered these principles.
Place them in the proper order in which they were mastered.
[Persuade] I'm here to help cleanse the Temple. You could at least give me a hint.
"Look to the passing of time, to the order of the sun, stars, and moon for understanding."

When you place the scrolls on the pedestals in the correct order, Frandar will give you his blessing before disappearing.

Frandar Hunding "Very well. You have my blessing. Now you must seek my son's spirit. Speak to Divad."
