Rother Nerevyn, a shipmaster at wit's end

Rother Nerevyn is a Dark Elf merchant and Retainer of House Indoril with a complaint. He can be found in the Harbor Offices on Old Ebonheart's dock. His cargo has been confiscated, and he will ask you to intervene.

Rother is the owner of the Pious Toiler, which is presumably moored at the city's docks.

He wears a common shirt, a common skirt, a pair of common pants, and a pair of dreugh boots. He wields a chitin shortsword.

Aside from his natural resistance to fire and the sanctuary provided by his ancestors, he knows no spells.

MiscellaneousEdit

  • Oh What Customs!: Imperial regulations make Great House politics almost seem tame in comparison.

DialogueEdit

  • Greeting:
(After talking to him at least once):
"Stay. Admire the paintings."
  • House Indoril:
"Some are born into the Great Houses, and some choose to be sworn in. I am of the latter, a proud Oathman of House Indoril. May we ever stand tall in the Tribunal's esteem."
  • Pious Toiler:
"She's no swift waterstrider on the water, but she gets the job done. What more can anyone ask a humble servant of the Tribunal? That is why I named her the Pious Toiler."
"She is the chief clerk of Census and Excise, but you can find her right here in this very building. A dried up old cliffracer, that's what she is!"

Oh What Customs!Edit

  • Greetings:
"Hello, outlander. I suppose you've come to harass me with Imperial bureaucracy as well, have you? Dagon take those wretched s'wits."
"Ah, %PCName! Have you gotten to the bottom of the issue with my confiscated cargo yet?"
"Was Ragosh gro-Matog of any help? Those three bottles of mazte have got to disappear."
"House Indoril thanks you for your help, %PCName."
(If he has lost his temper):
"By Boethiah there will be reckoning!" Goodbye (He attacks the guard in the room with him)
  • confiscated cargo:
"The Imperials confiscated my cargo, but I tell you, it was all perfectly legitimate goods! They didn't even give me a reason... And now I might bring shame to my House, thanks to these incompetent Census and Excise agents."
"She... she said WHAT? I... I... Almalexia's grace! You are to tell me that s'wit impounded my cargo for the sake of three extra bottles of mazte?" (Disposition -20)
  • There might still be a way to resolve this.:
"Blessed Three, I swear I'm going to... ach! You are right, of course. Forgive me, %PCName, I lost sight of myself for a moment there. By Vivec, if those bottles would just disappear, this whole issue could be cleared right up. Say... wait a minute! That gives me an idea. %PCName, would you be willing to take care of those three bottles of mazte for me?" (Disposition +25)
  • I'm not getting involved any further.:
"I've had enough! The Imperials have gone far enough this time, and by Boethiah, there WILL be a reckoning!" Goodbye (He attacks the guard in the room with him)
  • Just calm down! It's no big deal.:
"Calm down? You want me to... calm... DOWN!? No, I've had enough! The Imperials have gone far enough this time, and by Boethiah, there WILL be a reckoning!" Goodbye (He attacks the guard in the room with him)
"You already took care of that for me."
  • Imperial bureaucracy:
"They've made a fetching mess of it, I'll tell you that. But what would an outlander like you care? Leave me to my troubles."
(If Disposition ≥ 30):
"I am an oathman to the Great House Indoril, and as bad fortune would have it, a shipmaster under Imperial law. My cargo has been confiscated, and my ship, the Pious Toiler, was forced to sail away without it. Oh, what will the Tollmer say? I could bring disgrace to my liege lord's name. Blast that Porcilla Dythos! She has always had it out for our Thrice-blessed House! But you... you have a charismatic look about you. Perhaps you can help her see reason?"
  • Yes, I will help you.:
"Almalexia bless your good sense, outlander. Go, speak to Porcilla Dythos, the clerk, about my confiscated cargo. She's in the room to the right."
  • No, I'm not getting involved.:
"Outlanders, all the fetching same. Get on with you, then!" Goodbye (Disposition -10)
"Imperial regulations make Great House politics almost seem tame in comparison."
"They say there are only two certainties in this life: death and taxes. At least you helped me out of my last bind with the bureaucracy here. Thank you."
  • three bottles of mazte:
"I believe I saw that Ragosh gro-Matog making off with the bottles, for "safekeeping", he said. Perhaps he could be reasoned with more easily than Porcilla. Why don't you go speak to him? He's office just there, behind the other door."
"You haven't dealt with the bottles yet, have you?"
(If you have 3 jugs of Rother Nerevyn's Mazte):
"Is that what I think it is?"
  • I have the three extra bottles of mazte here.:
"Wonderful! Here, I'll take those off your hands. I'll be throwing these blasted things in the harbor. You'd better check in with Porcilla Dythos. Tell her she has no more reason to be holding my cargo hostage!" (Removed 3 Rother Nerevyn's Mazte from your inventory)
(If Porcilla Dythos has released the impounded cargo):
"This is wonderful news! I thank you, and Great House Indoril thanks you. I will tell them of your unexpected kindness. Please, take this as a reward. Almsivi bless your steps, outlander." (Disposition +20, House Indoril Reputation +1, and you receive 250 gold)
"Thank the Three those are gone. Now I can get back to business."
