Speaking with him before starting the related quest:

"If you're here to gamble, you're early. The tables don't get going until later. If you want a drink, head into the tavern."

Quest-Related EventsEdit

After you agree to help Constable Yabren, once she tells you her concerns about the recent deaths in Ontus, you will be asked to interview some people. This will include Ghrakug who can be found in the gambling hall:

"Welcome to the Stonechip Tavern and Gambling Den, stranger. Looking for work in Ontus? Or did you come to our fine establishment because you heard we host the best games of chance this side of the Strid?"
I'm helping Constable Yabren with an investigation. Can I ask you a few questions?
"So you're Yabren's new deputy? Good. She could use the help. I'm not sure I could come back and dive into work after losing someone as close as Yabren was to her father.
What can I tell you, deputy?"
What can you tell me about Yabren's father?
"Constable Ulbren was a good man. Kept the peace here. Made sure the workers—both native townsfolk and recent arrivals—got along.
He was a friend. I know he was concerned about the illness spreading through town. Shame it killed him."
Constable Ulbren was planning to talk to you. Any idea why?
"We talked all the time. As I said, we were friends. He'd sometimes inquire if there was any chatter in the Stonechip he needed to worry about.
But the only news I can think of is that a lot of our regulars from the quarry haven't been in in a while."
Since I'm new here, what should I know about the town of Ontus?
"Not much to tell. We're a small town full of hard-working people. Most everyone is employed by the Carvain Ranch or the Raxalee Quarry. Baron Carvain and Lady Raxalee have always had a sort of friendly rivalry, but lately it seems … less cordial."
Less cordial? What do you mean? / What was that about the ranch and the quarry being less coridal [sic]?
"The ranch makes a substantial profit providing food for the town and the region. While the quarry has had some success, since the war for the throne heated up it's begun to challenge the baron's status and put a strain on their relationship."
Tell me about fatigue fever.
"It's the illness affecting the workers. Took Constable Ulbren, too. We saw the first signs of it a few months back. It started innocently enough. Most thought everyone was working too hard.
But then those with the illness started dying."
Why do you think Constable Ulbren was investigating an illness?
"He was? That's a good question. I suppose maybe it was a little strange that only people who worked at the ranch or the quarry were getting sick. Until that is Healer Nevama and Ulbren got ill. The disease came upon them and they died very quickly."

After you have conducted your interviews and found Constable Ulbren's Notebook, Constable Yabren will ask you to talk to Baron Carvain and Lady Raxalee and meet with her at the tavern.

Once you return to the tavern, Constable Yabren will not be there, but Ghrakug will call you over:

Ghrakug: "Deputy, over here."

Talk with him to see what he knows:

"Deputy, I have a message for you from Constable Yabren."
What's the message?
"The constable said she found something at the healer's that pointed to a possible source of fatigue fever. She asked me to let you know. And that you should meet up with her.
She wants you to help her search Carvain Manor and Lady Raxalee's tower."
Constable Yabren thinks Baron Carvain or Lady Raxalee are responsible in some way?
"That I couldn't say. She wasn't exactly eager to share the details of her investigation in the middle of the town gambling den.
But between you and me, if Carvain and Raxalee aren't guilty of this, they sure as tusk are guilty of something."
Where can I find the manor and tower?
"Carvain Manor is south of town, on the Carvain Ranch. Watch yourself there. The ranch hands don't take kindly to trespassers.
As for Lady Raxalee's tower, it's north of town, looming over the quarry."

If you try talking to him again afterwards:

"Be careful, deputy. If Constable Yabren's right, whoever's behind all this didn't hesitate to remove the healer and Yabren's father when they got too close to the truth.
Watch yourself at Carvain Manor and Raxalee Tower."

Exploring the nobles' homes will lead you to finding several suspicious documents, and afterwards you and Constable Yabren will head to Zeggar's Blind. There you will find the alchemist responsible for the substance causing the deaths of the workers, as well as the murders of Constable Ulbren and Healer Nevama. You will also find a letter from Baron Carvain or Lady Raxalee that requests Alchemist Surius use his skills to kill you and Ghrakug in the same fashion.

While Constable Yabren goes to warn Ghrakug, you stay behind to deal with the alchemical equipment and Surius. When you race back to the gambling den, you only find a grievously injured Ghrakug:

Ghrakug: "Damned … mercenaries … got the drop on me."

Speak with him to find out what happened:

"Constable Yabren … they busted in right after she arrived. Mercenaries, by the looks of them. I tried to help, but I'm not the fighter I used to be.
They … they took Yabren!"
Do you know where they took Constable Yabren?
"They made a point of shouting so everyone could hear. "Fatigue fever is your fault, you and your crooked father!" I know that's not true. They want to blame her. Said they were taking her to the Ontus reservoir.
North … near the river …."
Ghrakug, stay with me!

Unfortunately, Ghrakug will have succumbed to his wounds.
