Rifskald Whalebane is a Nord sailor with a residence in Old Ebonheart. He is a friend of another Nord in town, Hhontjulf Fire-Mane, to the extent that he has been entrusted with feeding the man's dog while he's on his travels. As Hhontjulf's possessions are a target of the Thieves Guild, Rifslald can be made into a somewhat useful idiot.
For protection, he wears a pair of heavy leather boots and a pair of iron bracers. For clothing, he wears a common shirt and a pair of common pants. He wields an iron claymore and carries a Standard Fortify Strength potion, 3 Bargain Restore Health potions, and a key to Hhontjulf Fire-Mane's house.
Aside from his natural resistance to shock, immunity to frost, ability to shield himself, and a natural frost damage spell, he knows no spells.
On the second floor of his house, there is a piece of poisoned rat meat on the dining table that can be fed to Halli the Wolfdog to kill them.

- "The key to his house? I'm not supposed to give it to anyone... but, oh well. I promised Hhontjulf I'd look after his dog while he was away, but that dog is scary. I'll give you the key to his house, if you go and feed his dog, alright? And maybe water the plants, too?" (You receive the Key to Hhontjulf's House)
- There's a dog in the house?:
- "Yes, a wolfdog named Halli. More wolf than dog, if you ask me, that mean-spirited beast! It guards the house when Hhontjulf is out on his expeditions. Attacks anyone it doesn't like. It loves rat meat, though, so the only way to its heart is through its stomach. It could eat bucketloads of the stuff. Truth be told, I even poisoned some rat meat, so the dog would take a little nap, but I just couldn't bring myself to enter the house! Last time it nearly bit my arm off!"
- "Hhontjulf's house is on the west side of town. You can keep the key. Just water the plants and feed the dog, okay?"
